Congratulations to the District 196 Icettes as they won the ISI Winter Classic National Competition in Texas this past weekend.
The Icettes Figure Skating Team is a district-wide varsity sport in School District 196. Figure Skating has been part of the high school co-curricular program since 1976 and includes skaters from Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan, and Eastview High Schools as well as the School of Environmental Studies and several 196 Middle Schools. The Icettes includes Varsity and Junior Varsity synchronized skating teams, as well as a B-squad synchronized skating team for developing skaters. Team members also compete in smaller team and individual events representing the Icettes.
There were 21 teams from 9 states – (The Icettes had 35 skaters representing all four high schools and numerous middle schools). The Icettes won the Robert Unger Trophy which is given to the team that accumulates the most points over the duration of the competition. Strong performances were made in solo, spotlight, and team events to help the Icettes earn a total of 683 points, with the next closest team earning 619 points.
The Icettes will wrap up their season with their highly anticipated Ice Show. The Annual Icettes Ice Show will take place March 7-10, 2018 at Apple Valley Ice Arena.
